Malaysia’s green products have huge potential in the US

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s ‘green products’ such as LED lighting systems, solar water heaters, photovoltaic and green insulation have huge potential in the US, Malaysian Trade Commissioner in Miami, Florida, Jonathan Rao said.

Other products that had equal potential were green finishing building materials and extruded aluminium profiles, he said, adding, this was revealed through the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation’s (Matrade) inaugural presence at the 4th MiaGreen Expo and Conference (MiaGreen).

The event was held in Miami from January 26 to 27. During the two-day exhibition, a total of 49 serious trade enquiries were received and a majority of it was from specialised distributors, consultants and building contractors.
The preference for green buildings was driven by economic savings, intelligent design and landscaping that promotes a safe environment and eco-friendliness, Rao said in a media statement by Matrade yesterday.

He also said that the green concept hass increasingly been promoted as a smart, clean and sustainable energy for the future.

“Most green products in the market are being sold not primarily because of their environmental benefits but due to savings in energy costs, which is also the main purchasing factor for consumers,” he added.

Participating in the Miami event enabled Matrade to gauge the market potential and establish trade contacts with players in the North and South American green industry.

Rao said MiaGreen was the only green trade show in Florida that targets trade visitors from the Americas region.
“This event augurs well for Matrade as the green sector is one of those earmarked for sustained marketing and promotional activities,” he added.

Although more prevalent in Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, the level of awareness on green buildings in Latin America and the Caribbean is catching up. — Bernama
